NOPD SECOND DISTRICT OFFICERS MAKE MULTIPLE AUTO BURGLARY ARRESTS

NEW ORLEANS – NOPD Second District officers tracked down and arrested four suspects wanted for car burglaries in the area over the weekend. The arrests come after residents have reported an increase in car burglaries over the past several weeks.

Around 10:40 p.m. on Saturday night (April 16), Second District detectives Heather Gore and Brandon Singleton responded to a call reporting that several subjects were pulling on vehicle door handles in the area of Cadiz and Constance streets.

Traveling westbound in the 4900 block of Constance, the detectives observed a male wearing a black hoodie rummaging through a Nissan Altima. Two additional subjects were standing near the car serving as lookouts.  Another perpetrator was trying to get into an additional vehicle down the block.

The detectives approached the vehicle and asked the subject to step out of the car, at which time all four perpetrators fled on foot. Gore and Singleton pursued the first subject northbound on Lyons Street then westbound on Magazine Street where he was apprehended in an alley behind a residence in the 4800 block of Magazine Street.

During the course of the foot chase, additional general assignment detectives were able to apprehend the other three subjects. In addition to two juveniles, detectives detained two adults - Larry Johnson (DOB: 6/13/98), and Evantrell Tennessee (DOB: 9/26/98).

A few hours later, at approximately 3:30 a.m., the Second District platoon arrested Antonio Miller (DOB: 2-21-95) for tampering as he was observed pulling on car door handles in the 8300 block of Apple Street.

Detectives are investigating whether the suspects are responsible for other car burglaries reported in the area over the past several weeks.

Second District detectives are in charge of the on-going investigation and can be contacted at 504-658-6020.
